DARESALAM—Mohamed Aden Mohamed,International Quran Recitation held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. a 12-year old Somali has scooped best in the 18th International Quran Recitation held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

People from all walks of lif jammed the 60, 000 capacity stadium to the brim with the aim of listening the best reciters going for the glory.

“Three quarter of the people who came to attend the event were forced to follow proceedings from outside the national stadium,” ZBC2 reporter said.
Fifteen countries were represented in the competition.

“I came all the way from Dodoma to experience this today,” Mohamed Salam told a local radio in a live interview.

The event was broadcast live on radios and section of the national televisions.

Just last weekend, Jamia Mosque was the focal point during the 8th edition of the annual Qur’an memorization competition that closed last Sunday. The three-day boys’ competition that attracted a huge turnout brought together 100 participants from 44 madrasas within Nairobi and its surrounding areas who showcased their skills in the memorization of the Quran.

The competition featured four categories of five, ten, fifteen chapters and memorization of the whole Qur’an. Habiib Liban Muhammad from Imam Asim centre emerged the overall winner in the competition and for his splendid talent, he took home a Sh80, 000 cash prize and this was further crowned with an Umrah prize which will see him and one of his parents travel to lifetime Makkah, Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser pilgrimage (umrah).
