WAJIR—Eldas legislator, Aden Keynan has taken issue with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics over 49 persons the agency said identified themselves as intersex. He said intersex data is an insult to the people “culturally and religiously.”

Speaking at Eldas town during afforestation exercise, the MP said latest census report was misleading, adding that the leaders from the counties of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera will challenge the numbers.

According to the 2019 census result, Wajir has 781, 267 people out of which 49 are intersex.

Intersex is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t fit the typical definitions of female or male.
