NAIROBI—Ijara member of Parliament Sophia Abdinoor is this year’s winner of the prestigious Pride of African Women Award in Namibia.

In an event attended by the immediate former president of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, the first female constituency MP drew congratulatory message from Garissa leaders who hailed the award as success for the county image.

“I wish to congratulate Hon. Sophia Abdi Noor for being awarded Pride of African Women Award in Namibia yesterday,” the deputy governor Abdi Dakane said in a lengthy Facebook post.

He continued that, “I am happy that someone from my country, county and sub-county won, and I am even happier that it was her. The award appropriately reflects the exceptional contributions and efforts she made towards furthering women empowerment and leadership.”

Sofia Abdinoor dedicated the award to the people of Garissa County, particularly to her Ijara constituents.

“This momentous award belongs to the people of Kenya, Garissa County and in particular my electorates who not only gave me the mandate but most importantly stood up with me in the hours of struggle,” she said.
