NAIROBI—K24 Swahili news anchor, Alphonce Oladipoh accepted Islam.

Oladipoh changed his name to Sudheis Oladipoh, a name adapted from the legendary Saudi Quran reciter, Imam Sudeis of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

“I would like to let you know that today is an historic day for me. I have ushered a new chapter in my spiritual journey, one that I believe will give me inner peace and make me a better person, God willing,” Oladipoh said.

He said the Shahada, the declaration of belief in the oneness of God and on Muhammad as His final Prophet at Masjid Qubaa, Mombasa.

Oladipoh said that he was proud of his new-found faith.

“ I will remain a friend to many, religion should never divide us; but only make us stronger,” he stated.
