Garissa – Abdi Rahim Farah Jaari, the Chairman of the Garissa Farmers Network, has passed away on the night of February 1, 2025. His untimely death has left a deep void in the Garissa community, particularly within the agricultural sector, where he was a prominent and influential figure.
Jaari, a respected elder and professional, was a dedicated advocate for the betterment of farmers in Garissa County.
He founded the Garissa Farmers Network in January 2022, a non-profit organization aimed at uniting farmers in the region and offering them training and resources to improve their agribusinesses.
Under his leadership, the network grew into a vital force for empowering local farmers, helping them thrive in agribusiness, and contributing to the community’s economic stability.
His untimely passing was met with deep sorrow from political leaders and community members from Garissa county.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale expressed his heartfelt condolences, mourning the passing of Abdi Rahim Farah Jaari.
He described Jaari as “our dear brother, a respected elder, dedicated professional, and Chairman of the Garissa Farmers Network,” and stated that his untimely departure was a profound loss to all who knew him
Mr. Duale said, “just yesterday, we stood together in Garissa, engaging with farmers along the Tana River Basin during KEFRI’s support initiative.”
“His passion for agriculture and commitment to his people were evident in every step he took,” said CS Duale.
Fafi Member of Parliament, Salah Yakub, praised Jaari for his service to the farmers of Garissa, as well as his contributions to Islamic da’wa (missionary work) and community unification.
“Abdirahim’s services to Garissa farmers, Islamic da’wa, and community unification will always be remembered forever,” Yakub remarked.
Nominated Member of Parliament, Umulkher Harun, also expressed her grief, describing Jaari as a pillar of unity in the region.
“He was very passionate about agriculture and was a key pillar in the farmers’ network,” she said in part of her statement.
Jaari’s death is a loss to the farming community and Garissa residents where his influence helped shape agricultural development and foster a sense of unity and collaboration.
His legacy as a leader, farmer, and community elder will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Abdi Rahim Farah Jaari is survived by his family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives he impacted through his dedication to his work and his people.
Ali Shire, a fellow agricultural community member, said Jaari had unmatched skill in farming.
“The best farmer we have lost is irreplaceable. We have lost a lot, but Allah will make things right for Garissa farmers, especially in the areas of beekeeping and irrigation schemes.”
