NAIROBI – Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan Wehliye has commended opposition leader Raila Odinga for his consistent role in safeguarding Kenya’s democratic stability.
Mr. Keynan called for continued political cooperation between Odinga and President William Ruto.
Speaking at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Keynan praised Odinga’s historical contributions to national unity, citing his involvement in critical political moments since the country’s independence.
“The Odingas have always been magnanimous and patriotic,” noted Mr. Keynan. The Eldas legislator is serving his fifth term as a Member of Parliament (MP), making him the longest serving in Kenya’s legislative history.
He recalled their role in supporting Kenya’s first President, Jomo Kenyatta, during the colonial era, and their interventions during various political crises, including the 2007 post-election violence and the 2018 handshake with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Keynan also defended Kenya’s diplomatic standing following the African Union (AU) Commission elections, where Odinga was a candidate.
He lauded President Ruto’s leadership, describing Kenya as a “leading economic and diplomatic hub” that has garnered international recognition.
Keynan dismissed critics of tribal politics and emphasized national unity.
“The naysayers who are tribalists and ethnic chauvinists must be told in no uncertain terms that this country belongs to all of us,” he said, urging Kenyans to reject divisive politics.
The Eldas legislator encouraged bold political proposition and collaboration between Ruto and Odinga ahead of the 2027 and 2032 elections.
“I want to request His Excellency, the President, to work with the honorable Odinga in shaping Kenya’s future,” he said, speaking at the house of parliament.
His remarks signal a push for a broader political consensus in Kenya, potentially reshaping alliances ahead of future elections.
