Address electoral fraud in the upcoming meeting of the National Consultative Council, Jubaland political leaders urge President Hassan

NAIROBI—The Jubbaland Consultative Forum has expressed support for the National Consultative Conference called by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, the Forum stressed that the upcoming conference “should address not only federal disputes but also the political conflicts within and between federal member states to foster a comprehensive solution for the country’s challenges.”

The Forum highlighted the disputed elections in Jubbaland despite prior commitments from the federal government “to make sure there’s a free and fair elections.”

“We are calling for an immediate elections to be held in line with the Jubbaland Constitution and national laws,” a statement by the group seen by Kulan Post said in part.

 

Additionally, while they commended the federal government’s ongoing military efforts against terrorism. On the other hand, they raised oncerns on the focus being limited to specific regions.

“We call for equal attention to be given to areas like Middle Juba, which remain under the control of terrorist groups,” the statement by the Forum noted, adding that “we expresses gratitude to the international community for their support in Somalia’s fight against terrorism.”

JUBALAND CONSULTATIVE FORUM: PRESS STATEMENT

“The Forum, while considering the overall situation of the country in terms of politics, security, and stability, has issued this press release:

We welcome the national conference initiated by the President of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. We emphasize that the conference should not solely aim at resolving federal-level disputes but should also address the political conflicts within and between the federal member states, to reach a comprehensive political solution from the bottom up.

The Forum (MTJ) regrets that no elections have been held in Jubbaland since November 25, 2024, despite the Federal Government of Somalia announcing them earlier. Therefore, the Forum calls for the immediate holding of elections in Jubbaland in accordance with the Jubbaland Constitution and the general laws of the country.

The Forum (MTJ) expresses its appreciation for the war led by the Federal Government of Somalia and the national army, along with the Somali people, against the terrorist groups.

The Forum also expresses concern that the war is limited to specific regions and urges that equal attention be given to areas affected by terrorism, especially in Jubbaland regions like Middle Juba, which are completely under the control of the terrorist groups.

The Forum (MTJ) extends its gratitude to all friendly countries of Somalia and the international community who are supporting Somalia in its war against terrorism.”
