KISMAYU—Jubbaland forces engaged the milintant group Al Shabab in fierce gunfight at a location outside the port city of Kismayu.
According to Somali media reports, the unknown number of militants launched attack on a military base of the Jubbaland state forces in Abdalle Biroole area, outskirts of Kismayo town.
Goobjoog TV reported that the fighting lasted for more than an hour and both sides used heavy ammunition with casualties, sources said.
“At least three people died in the clash,” the TV reported late last night.
Jubbaland State is yet to comment on the attack. However, officials who spoke with the Press under condition of anonymity said Al-Shabaab suffered heavy casualties.
Al-Shabaab spokesman, through an affiliate website, claimed it killed Jubbaland forces and seized military equipment.
