Beledweyne, Somalia—The Somalia based militant group Al Shabab has executed three youths it accused of being members of the national army

Reports coming from Yiblan, a small town between Somalia’s Lower Shabelle and Hiiran regions indicate that the militant group beheaded three youths it accused of being members of the Somali National Army.

The armed group, while justifying the execution, said the young men had caused misery in the town of Yiblan that occur between the Lower Shabelle and Hiiraan, by raping women and robbing travelers that used the road that link the two regions while serving in the army. However, the locals have disputed that claim, saying that the beheaded youths were herders.

While speaking to the local media in confidence, a community leader said, “We know them (the three youths). They were not what they were accused of. They were herders in the area.”

International right groups have accused the militant group Al Shabab of passing severe judgment against its dissents, while accusing their victims of betraying the group’s mission to rid the African Union peacekeeping forces AMISOM out of the country. Al Shabab is also fighting the Federal government of Somalia and has similarly launched deadly attacks across the border in Kenya while avenging for the presence of Kenyan troops inside Somalia

The group usually mete out public lashing, stoning to death and execution, particularly beheading in the areas under their control.
