WAJIR—Just a week after the suspension of the planned reopening of the border with Somalia, section of leaders from the border counties yesterday made impromptu visits to several terror hotspots amid rising spate of cross-border attacks.

Led by the Cabinet Secretary for Defence Aden Duale, the leaders vowed to back the government in the war against Al-Shabaab, saying latest trend has the potential to marginalize the region.

Civilians and security officers have suffered casualties in the targeted attacks, a situation that forced Kenya to delay the reopening of the Somali border. The Somalia-based armed group Al-Shabaab had severally planted IEDs on the roads and raided villages.
