An Open Letter to Duale: Shoot down security bill if it comes back to Parliament

As a Voter no. 008 and a bonafide resident of Garissa Township Sub-County, I am today happy because the bill which took away my fundamental rights and freedoms, and that you spearheaded in its passage at the floor of the Parlaiment, was dealt a big blow by the High Court!

I am happy because my freedom of expression is finally restored. Once again, I am happy because my religious Ulamaas [Islamic scholars] will not be killed and disposed of in sewers in faraway lands in the name of fighting terrorism. I am happy because I will be saved the embarrassment of seeing you and your uncle Barre Shill seeking answers from yourselves over the mysterious death of your cousin in the media. I am happy because I got a chance to correct u again and frankly show you how you have disappointed us.
I don’t care about party politics, but when my rights get infringed I expect you to press the red button. And if you get expulsion from the party because of that, rest assured we shall vote you in again: you have my word.

I know it is not over yet, most probably your men will take the battle to the Court of Appeal, or even fight till to the Supreme Court, but I am appealing to you that if the bill is finally thrown back at you, kindly think twice before you rush with it to the Parliament because a true leader is he who puts the interest of his people first and heeds their grievances. If the Kitchen becomes too hot for you, kindly use the style of the former Prime Minister of United Kingdom by removing the coat—that is how real men play politics. They say “Sheria ni kama Msumeno,inakata pande zote mbili”[a piece of Law is like a saw; it cuts in both sides]. History is being written out of this bill and this story will definitely have heroes and villains. Put yourself where you truly belong in today’s history.
