Mandera-MassacreThe attacks by terror groups which deliberately target non-Muslims are only helping to harm the image of Islam as a peaceful and tolerant religion. In a statement issued by the committee of Jamia mosque condemning the latest attacks in Mandera county which left 36 people dead, the chairman Sheikh Muhammad Osman Warfa stressed that there was no justification whatsoever to perpetrate act of violence against innocent people.
The incident came just over a week after another gruesome incident where a bus was attacked and 28 people killed in Omar Jillo Arabia area within Mandera County.
“We strongly condemn the beastly tactic of using the name of Islam to perpetrate acts of violence against innocent people and we reiterate that their actions are unacceptable, immoral and inconsistency with Islamic teachings. Islam stands for peaceful co-existence and there is no reason whatsoever to justify the killing of innocent people,” he said in a statement read to worshipers after the Dhuhr (afternoon) prayers on Wednesday.
While sending a message of condolence to the bereaved families, he said the ugly incident should not be used to divide peace loving Kenyans who have lived harmoniously for centuries.
“At this time of profound grief, we call upon all the people of Kenya to stand united and shun the macabre attempts to divide the county along religious or ethnic lines as this remains the goals of terror groups to foment religious and ethnic divisions among the people of Kenya,” he said.
The chairman said that the security situation in the country was of grave concern to all Kenyans and urged the government to increase the security in all counties that border Somalia.
At the same time, he urged the government to embrace strategies which involved working closely with local communities to improve on the security situation. “Indeed in every village and location in Kenya there exist loyal and patriotic Kenyans ready to defend the country from threats against national security.
In his statement, Warfa cautioned against the use of inflammatory statements from leaders in the government, religious institutions and the civil society saying that this will only help to worsen an already volatile situation.
