Roadside bomb on government vehicle kill one in Mandera

MANDERA—One person was reportedly shot dead by suspected Shabab militants when a Toyota Landcruiser they were traveling on ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) before the assailants the vehicle with bullets.

“Kenya Mails” reported that the Sunday morning attack happened at Jabbi area in Mandera County.

An officer who briefed reporters on the incidents, but who sought anonymity because he’s not allowed to divulge details of the attack, said that the vehicle belongs to the Mandera Water and Sewage Company. The vehicle had four occupants at the time of the attack.

“They were traveling to Mandera from Elwak when the incident happened,” the officer said.

The driver, Derrow Hillow Mahat said all occupants would be dead had he not managed to drive through the ambush.

“One of the officials of the Mandera Water and Sewage Company was shot on the abdomen and bled profusely. The driver managed to drive through the ambush and stopped at about 5Kms from the scene,” a police report said.
