MANDERA—More than six people have been confirmed dead as two others are nursing serious injuries following an attack by militiamen in Banisa, Mandera County.

Fourty years old Adan Ali and his nine years old son, Abdullahi Adan are currently receiving treatment at Mandera County Referral Hospital after sustaining serious injuries following the attack.

Mathias Chisambo, the Banisa Deputy County Commissioner confirmed the incident and  noted that the militiamen were from the Garre clan and attacked the village killing five people from the Degodia clan.

“The militiamen who carried out the attack are from the Garre clan, we are doing an investigation on why they attacked the village,” Mr, Chisambo said.

The deputy County Commissioner also said that the police are after the attackers.

“A sixth person was killed but we don’t know by who, its not clear if those Garre militia will come back after attacking Chorogo village,” the Commissioner added.

Jimaale Abdi Hassan, the Guba ward Member of County Assembly has condemned the attack and urged residents to maintain peace as police carry out investigation.

In 2013, Garre and Degodia clans agreed to cease attacks and remain peaceful after constant and a long period of clashes among the two rival clans.
