CORD MPs storm out in protest after the House adopted amendment to the election laws

NAIROBI—The Opposition members of the National Assembly have stormed out of the chambers, citing “coercion”.

This follows after the Jubilee MPs passed the amendment to the election laws through their majority representation at the House.

The passed amendment will see the manual transmission of election results. The Jubilee legislators argued that some section of the country was not prepaid for digital transformation of the result due to poor telecommunication network.

The Opposition MPs maintained that the manual transmission of the election result could result in tampering.

The CORD affiliated MPs walked to the Milimani Law Courts to challenge the legality of the passed amendment immediately the Speaker, Justin Muturi declared the “Aye’s” have it.

Majority Leader Aden Duale said  accused the oppostion MPs of engaging in violence.

He said a member of Jubilee MP was injured by the Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo.

“They believe violence is the way,” the Garissa MP said.

Duale assured that election will be conducted in August, saying Raila “Is not a common denominator in the elections.”
