County offices to be ready in due course, Korane assures

GARISSA—Garissa county governor Ali Bunow Korane has said his administration will star the construction of county offices that will commence 2018 and is expected to be completed by May next year.

The governor also said upon completion of the offices all the county staff members will be absorbed and this will cut the cost on renting of office space.

Speaking to the media at one of Garissa hotels, Korane said tendering of the project has already started and specific contractors are expected to survey the site early next month.

He added that the construction will contain modern technology where by several departments will be housed at the newly constructed two storey office block belonging to the Kenya National Audit Office (KENAO).

Korane pointed finger at the previous administration for being reluctant in terms of constructing offices.

“The previous administration rented offices to devovled government heads such as Agriculture, Livestock and Health with some having huge electricity bills that have not been paid for months” he said.

He further added that office space is a major challenge to the current administration with some of the county staff working from very uncomfortable environment.

He termed this to be as a result of poor foundation that was laid to set up offices for members of staff from the previous administration.

On transport, Korane said that “90 percent of the vehicles are not serviceable”.

He urged county employees to strive to improve the lives of the residents irrespective of the shortcomings as his offices strives to improve their working environment and tools.
