Court dismiss plea by Eldoret Jamia mosque committee against their removal , paves way for audit of accounts

NAIROBI—A High Court in Eldoret on Friday dismissed an appeal that had been filled by Muslim Association that was in charge of the Eldoret Jamia Mosque.

In the online ruling, Eldoret High Court Judge Hellen Omondi dismissed the appeal paving way for the process of installing new leadership and an audit of all finances and assets that Eldoret Jamia Mosque. Ruling on the appeal has been pending for the past four years.

The association members were seeking orders from the High Court to overturn an earlier ruling by a lower court that directed for their removal and audit of the Jamia Mosque accounts.

North Rift Youth Daawa Group had filed the case accusing the management Committee of engaging in graft and mismanagement of the Mosque finances.

In 2016, Eldoret Law Court had ordered the removal of the Jamia Mosque Committee leadership and also directed it to give an account of all the assets and financial records for the mosque.

Eldoret Jamia Mosque has been beset with power struggles and leadership wrangle that has threatened the unity of Muslims at the Mosque.
