NAIROBI—The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is probing the authenticity of a dossier allegedly detailing the electoral malpractices released by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya released on January 18. The files supports claims that Raila Odinga emerged victor in last year’s presidential election.

Mohamed Amin, the DCI chief has since ordered full-blown inquiry into the claims of “forgery and falsification of documents,” a move Azimio believes worked in favour of President Ruto ahead of the result declaration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in August, 2022.

ARaila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka and several other senior opposition figures maintain that the dossier by “whistle-blower reflect the true results of the election.”

“In the last few days, the directorate has received numerous correspondence and complaints relating to information circulating online which is attributed to the IEBC,” Mr Amin said in a letter addressed to the chief executive of the IEBC.

He added that: “Our attention has also been drawn to documents alleged to be official results of the presidential election.”

“The directorate is investigating the validity and authenticity of the documents in question, in addition to whether offences relating to forgery and falsification of documents have been committed,” the letter further stated.

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo defended the authenticity of the figures shared.

“We shared are genuine but we will wait for the details of the investigations before our party leader responds,” Mr Kioni said.

Mr Odinga’s has in the past week used the documents to say that he was denied victory. He is pressing on with countrywide rallies to discredit Dr Ruto.
