WAJIR—The State is planning mass cancellation of the national examination and Nothern Kenya counties are the target, former Majority Leader and Garissa Township legislator has said.

Speaking in Wajir on Wednesday evening during dinner meeting with Wajir elders, Aden Duale said recents remarks by the Directorate of the Criminal Investigations (DCI) is “a recipe for a possible and well planned mass exam cancellation.”

“We would like to send a strong message to the Cabinet Secretary for Education (Prof George Mogoha) and the KNEC to be careful not to victimise the candidates from the region,” Duale stated

His sentiments comes at the backdrop of a growing fear among candidates and parents in the region after the DCI made claims that most of the national exam leakages had emanated from the Northestern Kenya.

According to a finding by the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau of the DCI indicate that the “region is responsible for the growing cases of illegal exposure of national examination materials.”

The DCI listed the three counties as notorious for exam leakage following results of a forensic examination on the mobile phones of four students arrested on March 20 over their possible involvement in the crime.

“Those claims are part of a process to create a narrative that will create an excuse for mass cancellation of the KCDE results.

“The State should not deny the children of Nothern Kenya the right to education and an opportunity to advance to higher learning,” Duale added.

Elders who spoke at the event wondered why the candidates would suffer for ” the deeds of irresponsible officials and laxity in the assurance of the exam integrity. ”

DCI boss George Kinoti said the students are a pawn in a big web of examinations frauds who include teachers, invigilators, and even local security officers.

Duale was in the company of the deputy president William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and the Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.
