NAIROBI—Hashim Dagane Muhumed, also known as Hashim Mohamed Khalif, appeared before High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo on Tuesday the 21st of January 2025, denying charges of murdering four women in October 2024.

The offences, which shocked the nation, occurred across two counties of Machakos and Nairobi.

While appearing virtually from the Nairobi remand facility, Hashim denied all charges, which include the murders of Dahabo Daud Said, Amina Abdirashid Dhahir, Musayba Abdi Mohamed, and Deka Abdi Noor Gorane on diverse dates and locations.

The prosecution pressed that three of these murders were committed the same night between October 21 and October 22, 2024, in Parklands, Nairobi, and Kyumbi in Machakos. Deka’s murder is reported to have taken place later, between October 29 and 30, 2024, at Valley Heights Apartments in Nairobi.

Hashim, who has been in custody since early November 2024, sought lenient bail terms through his lawyer, Akinyi Owino. However, Justice Kimondo directed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to serve an affidavit opposing bail within a week, allowing the defense to respond before the next court mention on February 11, 2025.

The trial is set to proceed on the same date, with Lady Justice Muigai presiding virtually.

The prosecution has indicated that they will formally oppose Hashim’s bail request, citing the “serious nature of the charges.”
