NAIROBI—Faisal Abdirahman Abass was on Sunday afternoon endorsed by section of Mandera elders to replace outgoing governor, Ali Roba.
After a serious of consultative meeting that lasted for over five months, the Darawa elders of the larger Garre community settled for Faisal through a competitive process.
“I am ready to unite the people of Mandera regardless of clan identity,” Faisal said while addressing the elders and the committee members who oversaw the process.
Others who showed interest for the endorsement—Dr Bashir Issack and Abdi Yussuf—vowed to support Faisal for the Mandera top post.
