Engage student in career choice, parents told

Parents have been urged to provide appropriate guidance and positively engage their children in making suitable education career choices which will help them in their future endeavors.
A senior Branch manager at the Institute of Advanced Technology, Sister Nuru Juma regrettable that many parents were denying their children their rights to make informed choice during career selection and instead forced them to choose professions which were not of their preference.
Speaking at a one-day class eight leavers’ seminar at Jamia Mosque over the weekend, she noted that the failure to engage the students in career choice could impact negatively on their academic performance called on parents to be at forefront in providing guidance and support towards their children’s educational endeavors.
Sister Nuru advised the erstwhile class eight students to maintain discipline and obedience so as to make positive strides in their secondary school academic journey and appealed to them to inculcate Islamic ideals and live in harmony with their schoolmates regardless of ethnic, racial or religious backgrounds.
She told parents, guardians and caregivers to prepare both class eight and form four leavers psychologically for proper transition to Form One and university.
Nuru further called for more measures to ensure that bright and needy children from poor backgrounds are supported to further their education.
The event that was organized by Light Sisters Organization in partnership with Al-Hidaya Muslim Family Initiative and attracted over 200 participants from Nairobi and its environs.
