NAIROBI—An Ethiopian Airlines experienced a slight runway excursion on Juba International Airport in South Sudan Tuesday evening, local media reports.

The De Havilland Canada Dash 8 ran off the runway during bad weather. The passengers were all taken to safety, no casualties reported.

The Ethiopian national carrier is yet to make statement on the hitch. The plane was destined for Addis Ababa.

A runway excursion occurs when an aircraft departs the runway in use during the take-off or landing run. It mostly happens when departing aircraft fails to become airborne or successfully reject the take off before reaching the end of the designated runway.

In March, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8, took off at 08:38am (05:38 GMT) and lost contact with air traffic controllers six minutes later.

It crashed near Bishoftu, southeast of the Ethiopian capital, killing all 149 passengers and eight crew members on board.

More news as and when received.
