Farah Maalim and Somali minister captured in “violent” video have reconciled

NAIROBI—Former deputy speaker in the Kenyan National Assembly Farah Maalim and Somalia’s Postal and Telecommunications Minister Mohamed Mursal have reconciled and buried their difference,  Kulan Post understands.

“The matter has been resolved and the minister has since withdrawn his case from the Diplomatic Police,” Abdullahi Mohamed who  is privy to the settlement of the case, said.

The reconciliation effort between the leaders was led by the Lagdera Memeber of Parliament, Mukhtar Shidiye,  Dr Dahiye, Garissa Women representative Shukran Gure and elders from both parties.

“The two leaders will meet to shake hands. We believe that the incident was ugly,” Abdullahi added.

A CCTV footage captured Farah Maalim punching the Somali minister on the face.

The viral video was uploaded on the social media on Thursday but the incident took place on afternoon Wednesday at a Nairobi hotel.

Gele reported the incident at the Kileleshwa Police Station, but has since been taken up by the diplomatic police unit.

Nairobi police head Japheth Koome said, “Such matters involving top government officials from other countries can only be handled diplomatically.”

“We do not intend to pursue the matter legally, I am not at liberty to discuss the matter as community elders will look for an amicable solution,” Maalim was quoted by the Kenyan dailies.
