NAIROBI—Former Lagdera Member of Parliament, Farah Maalim has finally responded to the incumbent Garissa Township MP, Aden Barre Duale who earlier referred to the former deputy speaker a “political reject.”

Speaking to Key FM’s Bashirdin Mohamed Mohamud on the phone, Maalim defended the timing of his political declaration, saying the area was under-developed. He added that different section of the people in the constituency had called on him to vie for the seat.

“I was invited by the people of Garissa Township. They asked me to represent them in the next Parliament. It was by popular demand that I decided to vie for this (Garissa Township) seat,” he said.

He added that he was politically senior to Duale, adding that the Majority Leader was student when he was a parliamentarian. He referred to him a “young man.”

Two hashtags were initiated on twitter: #TeamDuale and #TeamFarahMaalim. The latter had the most impression with a trending period of more than 24 hours in Kenya.

The declaration of interest by Maalim has not gone down well with Duale. In a classical response, he termed Maalim ” a political reject.”

“Maalim’s bid is a non-stater. He is a political reject in the County,” he told K24 TV on the phone.
