NAIROBI—The governor of Mandera County has denied throwing lavish farewell party for his predecessor at a Nairobi hotel on Monday.

While responding to the former senator of Mandera Billow Kerrow, governor Mohamed Khalif said the county was not involved. However, the invites seen by Kulan Post has the county emblem.

“Mandera County Govt [is] throwing a lavish farewell party in a high-end Nairobi hotel tomorrow for the former Governor, probably at a cost of millions of shillings. Very insensitive, coming at a time when thousands of residents face starvation. Ill-advised!” The former senator tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

In response, the governor said: “The county government of Mandera is neither responsible for funding any luxurious farewell party nor is it responsible for the invites. Our people are and will always be a priority for this Government.”

According to the event orgernisors, the farewell party was planned by the “family and friends of senator Ali Roba.”

“The mistake and the spinning was caused by the emblem that was erroneously put on the invitation cards. It was just an honest mistake by the graphic designer,” one of the highly placed orgernisor told Kulan Post in confidence.

The party has since been cancelled due to the the State House meeting between President William Ruto, the ten governors from drought-striken counties and the donor community.
