GARISSA—Members of the Garissa County Assembly have rejected the Punguma Mzigo Constitutional amendment bill in a sitting on Tuesday.
The assembly said the proposed law by the Third Way Alliance will bring about unfair representation, particularly for the pastoralists communities.
The rejection of the bill was expected given that the public has warned against passing it.
The Committee on Justice and Legal affairs conducted public participation on the Punguza Mzigo Bill (Constitutional Amendment Bill 2019) at Nomad palace on Friday ahead of the tabling at the assembly.
“Your suggestions will shape the decision of the Committee and the whole house on which way to go regarding the Bill,” the committee Chairperson, Hamdi Ahmed assured the participants.
In early August during his visit to the assembly to convince the members to support the bill, Dr Ekuru Oukot urged the assembly to support. The members led by the speaker vowed to see the bill to its adoption.
