Garissa residents need stronger Senate role to monitor how the county spends their billions—Major Sugow

GARISSA—Garissa people want a stronger representation at the Senate to oversee how the county government spend their billions, two times former Fafi Member of Parliament has said.

Speaking at Garissa on Monday, Aden Sugow said he was prepared to live up to the expectation of Garissa County residents, adding that a strong oversight role is what is badly needed.

He said the current county government leadership lacks direction due to “lack of support and guidance from the Senate side.”

“We have to make sure that we have an effective oversight to ensure that resource coming to this county is given to the people who deserve,” Sugow told Kulan Post.

He said a well-structured senate role could avert the current crisis in the county where the resource is centralized at Garissa town. He believes a decentralized resource outlets is the answer to the crisis.

“We have to make sure that devolution is properly done. The resource has to be taken down to the sub county and ward levels.

“We have to decongest Garissa County headquarters to revive our sub county and to make sure that the wards are not deserted,” Sugow stated.

He said contrary to words doing round in Garissa county, he was still in the race and that he was busy selling his bid to the constituents.

“I am still running for the Garissa County senate seat,” the retired major with the Kenyan Army said.

He added that he was sourcing for like-minded individuals to make up his team in the

2017 elections.

“I would be vying (for the senate post) alongside people we share the same ideology and vision with,” he said.
