WAJIR—A professional movement in Wajir County on Saturday kicked-off an emergency water provision exercise amid biting drought in the area.
Eldas Professionals Association (EPA) officially launched drought mitigation program to support and provide clean water to drought affected communities living in Eldas sub-county by water-trucking.
The exercise is set to cover 22 of the 36 settlements facing water crisis in Eldas constituency. The group said program is aimed at lessening the suffering of the people and their livestock.
“Wajir, like the other NEP counties, did not receive adequate rainfall in last season of August-December short rains hence adding more to the already existing water shortages” said Siyad Jimale, EPA Organzing Secretary.
He added that prior to the launch of initiative, EPA team undertook an assessment to the most affected areas in Eldas Sub-County and discovered that 22 of the 36 settlement in Eldas Sub-County is facing serious crisis, forcing them to start the tracking exercise.
On Saturday, the group covered areas such as Biyacad,baladul amin,Elyunis,mirgo harun and Tula Tula.
The team took issue with the area MP, Aden Keynan who they said was spearheading campaign to tarnish their names and programs under their care.
“We are warning the area MP, Keynan to desist maligning this program and instead help the people who are affected by drought “ Abdille Yussuf, Sec to EPA noted.
Eldas Professionals Association (EPA) forum; EPA is a not-for-profit, voluntary membership association registered under Kenya’s Societies Act (CAP.108) that will serve as an umbrella organization for professionals from Eldas Constituency. The primary purpose is to pool ideas and resources for the betterment of members and the community.
EPA is the platform that will bond our professionals and bring back their dignity and voice, regardless of family, clan, and political affiliations.
EPA will provide legal aid to its members who cannot afford legal representation and access to the court system. EPA has a duty lawyer who will always be available to represent the association and its members.
EPA will also provide litigation services on behalf of the community when necessary.
EPA was formed to protect Eldas professionals from politically instigated harassment, transfers, sackings, demotions, disciplinary actions, and unfair recruitment practices. EPA will stand by its members and petition the authority as and when required.
As the elections nears, political observers say the movement has been received with shocked by the circle close to the incumbent MP.
