Gunmen attack Mandera North parliamentary aspirant, one person dead.

MANDERA—Two vehicles belonging to Abdi Ali, Mandera North parliamentary aspirant were Tuesday morning attacked and sprayed with bullets at at location between Jabi-between Rahmu and Bambo West.

It is suspected that chief Jelle Ali, the elder brother to Abdi  Ali and the chief of Ashabito was targeted for “attempted assassination.”

Barrey Abdi Mohammed also a very close relative  Abdi Ali was killed in the gun attack. Another person was also seriously wounded.

Abdi has sent his condolences to the bereaved families.

Garis2The incident has been reported to the police and to the county commissioner. “We are asking the secutity team to investigate  and get to the bottom of this and bring the culprits to book,” he said.

“This was an attempt of political assassination,” he added.

“Abdi Ali had been preaching peace throughout his campaign and he condemns this heinous act of barbarism,” a supporter said.

This attack comes barely two weeks after the Mandera governor Ali Roba’s political convoy was attacked.

At least five security officers escorting Mandera governor to a location in the county have died following blast attack that targeted his convoy between Fino and Arabia.

The governor was engaged in his reelection campaign when his convoy was attacked.

“I lost five of my security officers including my personal bodyguard at an attack on my convoy between Arabia and Fino at around 1pm,” Governor Ali Roba said.

The attack comes barely three days after the deputy president William Ruto attended a Jubilee rally in Mandera.
