Mohamed Abdi Mohamud holds his IEBC clearance certificate ahead of the August polls. A Wajir voter is now challenging his nomination.

NAIROBI—A Wajir resident has petitioned the electoral commission to nullify the nomination of Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has earlier this month cleared the former Saudi ambassador to participate in the August elections on a Jubilee ticket.

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdille, a voter in the county want the IEBC nominations dispute resolution committee to nullify the Jubilee governor on the grounds that he lacks a university degree.

“I am aware that the respondent is not qualified to contest the position of county governor as he does not meet the threshold…This is because the respondent does not hold a degree,”Abdirahman Mohamed said in his petition.

He mentioned Jubilee party and Mohamed Abdi as respondent.

The petitioner attached a copy of university degree certificate of Mohamed Abdi which indicates that the former minister graduated from the university of Kampala in March, 2012 a year before the 2013 elections were held.

Mohamed Abdi has never publicly responded to that question about his degree, but his campaign team dismissed the subject.
