NAIROBI—Eldas legislator Adan Keynan (Jubilee) has a reason to heave a hearty sigh of relief after a High Court judge dismissed an election petition challenging his August last year victory. The poll outcome was disputed and petitioned at the High Court by Ahmed Boray Arale (ODM).

While dispensing the verdict virtually, Justice Stephen Riechi said the “election was substantially held in accordance with election laws.” The judge added that the “Irregularities did not affect the outcome.”

The judge further ruled out swapping of ballot papers at Masalale and Warcadey polling stations. Masalale and Warcadey are two settlements where the petitioners alleged that swapping tookplace. The court also dismissed claims of police intimidation at the poll day.

“The Court was not sufficiently convinced that theere was widespread variance and discrepancies…No evidence was adduced to support the claim,” Justice Riechi stated.
