HOLA, TANA RIVER—A passenger plane has for the first time landed in Tana River at the newly constructed Hola Airstrip.

Governor Dhado Godhana was on the inaugural trip, accompanied by section of his staff members.

“This is a dream come true; a great win for Tana River’s residents who have been yearning for such means of transport for so long,” Governor Godhana said.

The inaugural flight arrived days ahead of transfer from the care of of the KDF and will be used for civilian purposes.

When fully operationalised, the airstrip will support three trips a day and will serve people not only in Tana River but Lamu, Mombasa, Malindi and even Garissa who would wish to connect to and from Nairobi.

Governor Godhana noted that 50 to 100 people will be able to move to and from the airport every day, “going a long way in boosting business in the region.”

The official launch is scheduled for August when the project is completed.
