GARISSA—After a hotly contested race in Garissa Township constituency by-election, Dekow Barrow Mohamed, has won the seat on a UDA ticket.

Garissa Township returning officer announced Rtd. Major Dekow as the MP elect after garnering 11,572 votes to slay down his closest competitor Nassir Dolal alais Jofle of UDM party who got 8,158 votes while Ibrahim Malow (Narc-Kenya) coming third with 840 votes.

Other candidates who contested were Abdikhaim Osman of DP party popularly know as Rati, Abdifaisal Amin (ODM) and Muhiadin Ahmed Abdirashid (DAP_Kenya).

“I am delighted and grateful to all. I shall serve the electorate fairly in this constituency,” he said after IEBC declared him the winner.

The race was a political supremacy battle between CS Duale, the former area MP, and Mandera Senator Ali Roba who owns the UDM party.

Considering the strong waves of campaign rallied by CS defense Aden Duale, a win for Dekow was likely according to the local political analysts.

Dekow had contested the Garissa governor seat on UDA ticket in the August 9 election but came a distant third behind former Governor Ali Korane of Jubilee Party and the current county boss Nathif Jama (ODM) who won the race with 69,342 votes.
