GARISSA—A close relative of the Majority Leader and Garissa Township legislator was implicated in the Garissa High School land-grabbing saga.

Human rights activists Boniface Mwangi said in a tweet late on Thursday that the community in Garissa town know the identity of the alleged land grabber.

Mwangi said Duale’s brother-in-law was the unidentified identity behind the land saga.

“Hey @HonAdenDuale Garisaa High School land is being grabbed. The community allege that its your brother-in law who is grabbing it. The students have protested in the streets but the adults are afraid of you. Do the right thing, protect the school land from your relathief,” Mwangi tweeted.

Garissa High School students went on rampage on Wednesday, destroying stalls to protest the report that a private developer was forcefully taking over their school land.

Hundreds of angry students blocked the busy Kismayu road as they matched to the governor’s office building, which also houses the regional and county administrators.

The students caused a snarl up as businesses were closed before they were addressed by the County Commissioner.

“We know what is happening in your school and we promise we will look into the matter as the law will take its cause,” Joshua Chepchieng said.

The students claimed a private developer pulled down the fence of the institution and started constructing stalls on the land during the school holiday.

“when we closed school, a powerful person came and destroyed the fence and built some stalls. We want our land back and perpetrator brought to book.” Ahmed Ali a form three student told Kulan Post.
