GARISSA—Members of the Garissa County Assembly have yesterday blamed the County Public Service Board over the bloated human workforce at a time when the governor sent over 2000 workers home.

Minority Leader, Mr Mohamed Ali Sheikh while addressing the press and flanked by section of colleagues told the county government to issue notice before sacking employees.

However, Governor Ali Korane said bloated workforce has contributed to the wage bill to a tune of sh 5.4 billion annually that has serious implication on county development programs.

Mr Mohamed Ali  Sheikh further said that the board should take full responsibility since they were legally mandated in employing county staff, adding that they remained silent when senior staffs were employing on claims of delegated authority.

“Public Service Board should give the staff notice before terminating their jobs,” Mohamed Ali who is also the Abakaile ward representative, said.

The governor dismissed the ‘Ugatuzi na kazi’ casual workers  on Friday due to lack of proper legal framework, budget allocations to implement the program and lacked workable formula and terms of engagement.

The affected staffs told the press that they could not log in to view whether their salaries have been credited but without success.
