Jubaland Strengthens Security Amid Tensions with Federal Forces

JUBALAND – The Ministry of Internal Security of Jubaland State has issued a statement Monday evening reaffirming “its commitment to regional sovereignty and the defense of its territories, especially in the face of escalating tensions with the Somali Federal Government.”

According to a press release, issued on Monday, the state outlined the ongoing security situation in the Jubaland region, particularly in the Gedo and Ras-Kamboni areas.

The Jubaland administration confirmed that Somali Federal Government forces recently attacked Ras-Kamboni.

The area, known for its strategic importance, is now a focal point of conflict between allied forces.

The statement from the Ministry of Internal Security of Jubaland State underscored a shift in the leadership of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces in the Ras-Kamboni region.

Despite these changes, the Jubaland government expressed continued support for the AMISOM mission and its forces.

Jubaland called for more international assistance. The semi-autonomous state is seeking reinforcements for key areas like Buur Gaabo, Kudhah, and Biroole. These regions are vital to the region’s security.

Jubaland state has reiterated that it remains firm in defending its sovereignty.

It also expressed a willingness to cooperate with the Somali Federal Government.

The local government has made it clear that it will not allow outside forces to control its affairs.
