KAJIADO— Kajiado leaders now want the government to do head counts of all the Somalis in the county.
Speaking while lunching the Beyond Zero Campaign at Massai Technical Training Institute, Women’s representative Mary Seneta and Senator Peter Mositet, both from Kajiado, said this will help establish the interests of the “foreigners” in the region.
Also present at the event was First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
Mary Seneta raised alarm over the movement of Somalis between Namamnga and Kajiado, saying the local resident were nolonger secure in their own homeland.
“This is a matter of grave concern because these people (Somalis) have come here and they are buying land, building homes and institutions which are occupied by questionable characters who cannot even speak in Kiswahili,” said Mositet. Speaking in Kiswahili, one of the two national languages is not an express assurance that one is a Kenyan.
He accused members of the provincial administration of being behind cartels that issue identification cards to aliens in total disregard of the national security.
Governor David Nkedianye who was hosting the First lady, and seemingly irked by the reckless uttarances, called on the speakers not to veer out of the day’s subject.
“We came here to share with the First Lady the health concerns of our people and not to bring other issues different from this,” he said.
Senator Mositet, reacting to the governor’s statement, said the two issues were equally important.
