NAIROBI—Wiper leader and second to Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka has denied reports that he “chickened” out in the last minute, saying he was detained.
In an audio report seen by Kulan Post, Kalonzo said Raila failed to adhere to an overnight agreement between the principals to spend in one place.
“We agreed the previous night that we would make our journey from one place, but Raila spend at his house,” he said.
“Our security detail was ordered to leave our side. Armed men from the security agencies held us in a room and stopped us from the inauguration,” Kalonzo explained.
He further explained that Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula suffered similar fate. The duo are yet to respond to Kalonzo’s account of what transpired.
“This was a well planned bid to stop us from joining Raila Oding at Uhuru Park for the swearing in,” he continued in the audio which appears to have been recorded to set the record straight at a time when NASA supporters are questioning the future of the coalition.
“We will continue the struggle and NASA supporters should stick together,” Kalonzo urged.
In social media sites, Kenyans have been making fun of Kalonzo, terming him “watermelon.”
At noon on Tuesday, Raila Odinga was “sworn” in at the Uhuru Park in an event attended by thousand of Kenyans.
All Kenyan Television stations relaying the event were shut, causing thousands to seek information from internet livestreaming platforms like Facebook and YouTube.
At Uhuru Park, the network was jammed making livestreaming nearly impossible.
Alone and among charged, excited supporters, Raila Odinga took a mock oath presided over by T.J Owjang, a legislator at the National Assembly and Miguna Miguna.
“Kalonzo will take his oath at a later date, ” Raila said after he made a brief speech.
