WAJIR—Tension is  high in Kutulo village, Wajir county, after a middle aged man was shot dead inside Kutulo Administration Police Camp in an ongoing military operation against suspected Al-Shabaab members.

The 50 years old Hassan Abdi was killed after he was arrested together with some other men on Thursday morning.

This comes after 8 security officials were confirmed dead last week at Kutulo, Tarbaj constituency after the vehicle they were traveling in was exploded by an Improvised Explosive Device.

According to Wargaduud Member of County Aseembly, Issa Ahmed Abdi,  Mr Muhumed was a security guard at a local Kenya Power electricity station.

“Hassa Muhumed was a night guard at a Kenya Power electricity station here in this village, we do not understand why they even arrested him,” Issa Ahmed said.

The Somalia based rag tag Al shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the attack in Bojigaras, claiming, in its usual propaganda, it killed 15 security officers and injured 23 others.

After the police Land Cruiser hit the IED on Sunday, the attackers who were hiding nearby ambushed the security officers.

Wajir county political leaders blamed the natinal government on the terrorists attacks the county experiences.

Eldas legislator Adan keynan on Monday  said that Cabinet Secretaries for Internal and Defense are not doing enough to secure the residents of Wajir.

“The CSs incharge of internal security and defence, and the heads of all the security agencies should deal with these criminal elements ruthlessly,” Keynaan said.

The National Police had earlier issued an alert on a possible attack in Wajir, Garissa and Mandera County during the just-ended Ramadhan period.
