LAMU—At least 11 members of the Somali based armed group Al Shabab have been killed after they attacked a military base in southwestern county of Lamu which borders Somalia
Confirming the attack, Kenya army spokesman Colonel David Obonyo said the militants tried to attack the base, but were quickly repulsed.
Obonyo added that some of the attackers were white.
“The attack was repulsed. During the firefight, 11 al-Shabab terrorists including two fighters of Caucasian origin were neutralised. Several others fled with injuries towards the forest and hot pursuit is currently under way,” he said.

“Report any suspect-looking injured person to the authorities,” he said. Obonyo said Kenyan army lost two of their officers in the attack.
The attack comes hot on the heels of yet another at a neighbouring village where at least 50 Shabab members ordered the villagers to listen to their anti-government sermon for three hours.
According Basuba Location Chief Yusuf Nuri, the attackers were not in hasty and left after they observed the Fajr (dawn) prayers. No one was harmed in that dawn attack.
The attack comes exactly a year after 60 Shabab members attacked Mpeketoni where they killed over 50 villagers in a raid that lasted for 9 hours.
