MANDERA—Al Shabaab has recruited 35 individuals within Mandera county to help them carry out attacks in Kenya. The government has claimed to have the list of those individuals.

Ambassador Mohamud Saleh, the North Eastern regional commissioner said the locals know those individuals since they have raised their families in kenya

Addressing the media after charring a meeting that brought elders from the Sub Counties in Mandera, Saleh noted that unless residents in the area are ready to work with the security officials, war on terror shall never end.

“Let us not pretend that we don’t know what the problem is, our own youth are fueling the Al Shabaab terror activities. Ring leaders of terror activities here are our own youth, they usually come here from Somalia to visit their families and nobody reports them to the security authorities,” he said.

“Unless you the elders and leaders make action of restoring and bringing security in this county, then Mandera will not be insecurity free, let us be honest with ourselves,” he added

North Eastern region has suffered from insecurity since Kenya got her independence in 1963. From shifta war, to clan based conflicts to the current Al Shabaab terror activities.

He said the region can’t be calling and using resources on security meetings. He said leaders should start asking themselves some hard questions before everyone perishes.

The regional commissioner said North Eastern can no longer be using resources on security meetings and leaders together with elders should take action before everyone falls a victim of insecurity.

Mr. Saleh who was on a five days tour in Wajir and Mandera counties was accompanied by security officials in the region among them, senior assistant inspector general Omar Shurie,  Edward Mwamburi, the Kenya police service regional commander
