More people dead from Covid-19 in Garissa as death toll surpass 100

GARISSA—The cumulative number of deaths from Covid-19 in Garissa county has surpassed 100, after two more people succumbed in the last 24 hours.

According to the Hassan Anshur, the Chief Officer Health and Sanitation, the two victims are from Garissa sub-county.

The cumulative number of deaths from Covid-19 in the county now stands at 102. The positivity rate has also climbed to 16.6 per cent.

Anshur further said that in the past 24 hours, a five year old girl was among 36 people who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the county.

He added all the cases were Kenyan nationals – 17 males, and 19 females with the oldest being a 75 year old male.

This brings the total confirmed positive cases in the county to 1,882 from 17,155 tests conducted.

He said that a total of 37 patients were currently admitted in various isolation health facilities in the county adding that 10 of them are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 295 are under the home-based isolation and care program.

The C.O. added that seven people had recovered from the disease, all from home- based care isolation.

And as of yesterday evening, a total of 7,560 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have so far been administered across the county. Of these, the first doses are 5,634 while second doses are 1,926.

Anshur reminded the public that the seven sub county hospitals, the three refugee hospitals in Dagahaley, Ifo and Hagadera and Medina Health Centre in Township were both vaccination and testing centers.

Additional vaccination centers in township include Iftin sub-county hospital, Police Line dispensary and the Prison dispensary.
