NAIROBI—Political leaders from the three Northeastern Counties will tomorrow respond to the Census report which was released on Monday.
Three Governor’s, Senator’s, Women Reps and all MPs from Garissa, Wajir and Mandera will hold a joint press conference tomorrow morning at Parliament building in Nairobi “over flawed 2019 Census results,” a press invite seen by Kulan Post said.
After the presser, they will jointly file a court case against Kenya National Bureau of Statistics to review the figures “that was deliberately” decreased and “intentionally manipulated.
Since yesterday, section of Northeastern leaders have been strongly coming out against the result of the national census, saying it was manipulated.
Mandera North MP Bashir Shiekh and his Tarbaj counterpart, Ahmed Bashane as well as the former Mandera senator, Billow Kerrow vowed to challenge the result in court.
“In 2009 Census, the Population of Tarbaj people was 111,846. Here comes 2019 result, KNBS is stating that the population is less than 2009 figures. How comes after 10 years the figures are less?” The Tarbaj MP asked, adding that he would “challenge the result at the court.”
Bashir Sheikh said the result did not reflect the true numbers on the ground, insisting that it was manipulated “for obvious reasons.”
“Was there another census after August done at the KNBS offices? We demand for the RAW data as captured by the enumerators on the ground in Aug. KNBS doctored results and for obvious reasons,” the Mandera North MP said.
Former Mandera Senator, Billow Kerrow wondered how the the numbers of Northeastern reduced and Central increased “despite the low fertility rate.”
“Welcome to Census made in Kuria’s Gatundu! Kiambu & Central Kenya with the lowest fertility / growth rates in Kenya now record the highest population growth. North Eastern with the higest fertility rates / household sizes record lowest or negative growth. Census ya vifaranga!” Kerrow tweeted Monday evening.
The Economic Freedom Party (EFP) has also dismissed the results, saying it will subject the outcome to the Courts.
“We ask for an investigation into these figures and a proper and acceptable corrective measure taken so that Mandera is placed in its rightful space in Kenya demographics,” Hassan Abey, the party chairman, said in a statement.
He continued: “Failure to which we are going to seek legal redress, including taking KNBS to court.”
The provisional result for the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census was released on Monday, indicating a population growth of nine million since the exercise was last carried out 10 years ago.
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics said Kenya’s population is 47,564,296, with 23,548,056 males and 24,014,716 females. A total of 1,524 are intersex.
