One police officer injured in Habaswein following suspected Al Shabab attack

WAJIR—Police officers in Hasabwein, Wajir County, have launched a search for suspected Al-Shabaab militants who attacked and injured an officer on Monday, October 17, 2022.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the Recce squad officers were on patrol when they were attacked by the armed bandits suspected to be members of the Al-Shabaab group.

Before the attack, the bandits deflated the tires of the vehicle they were using before shooting. Constable Abdimalik Ahmed sustained a gunshot injury on the collar bone.

“It was reported that the officers on patrol duties were attacked by armed bandits suspected to be members of Alshabaab militants. The tires of their vehicles were deflated before the attackers began shooting. P.C Abdimalik Ahmed sustained a shot injury on the collar borne,” the police report read in part.

The Border Police Unit (BPU) based at Kulan responded quickly and rushed the casualty to Amisom Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Dobley, hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Following the incident, reinforcement was immediately sent to pursue the attackers and tow the vehicle.
