MOMBASA—Amina Galgallo Omar, 13, is the first girl from her Orma community to be admitted to the Alliance Girls High School one of the top girl’s schools in the country.

She scored 384 marks in her last year KCPE examinations. Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced that all candidates who had 400 marks and above would be admitted to top national schools across the country.

Amina broke down in tears after narrowly missing a spot at a top school of her choice. She was willing to repeat in order to attain her desired 400 marks.

Ramadhani Jilo Guyo, her mother speaking to the nation explained that this disappointed her daughter who had always wanted to join Alliance Girls High School.

“She cried for a whole day when the results came out. She was the top candidate with 420 marks in Tana River zonal mock exams and had expected to score at least 400 marks in the final test,” noted Mrs Ramadhani.

However, the family received good news after Amina was admitted to the school of her dream.

Amina, a fourth born in a family of six expressed her satisfaction saying she wants to train as commercial pilot and work in the aviation industry in the future.

“I grew up in the village seeing aeroplanes passing in the sky. I said to myself that one day, I will fly one such plane,” she told the nation.
