Members of Wajir County Assembly (MCA’s), the County Ministers and the County Chief Officers (county Permanent Secretaries) are from Monday set to retreat to Mombasa for a week-long bonding session aimed at “ironing out the difference between the two arms of the county government.”

Outrageously, the seven day retreat will cost the people of Wajir County a whooping 12 million, WAJIR TIMES can confidently reveal.

Contacted, a member of the assembly said he was aware of the plans, but declined to divulge more information saying doing so could jeopardise his relations with executive arm of the local government, and that of his colleague legislatures.

” Most MCA’s are of the opinion that we should postpone this retreat all together because we don’t see the need for the event at the expense of the poor people of Wajir, but the executive is insisting on it,” he said on condition of anonymity.

In late October, The National Drought Management Authority coordinator for Wajir County Yassin Farah said over 6000 families in Wajir were on the verge of death due to impending drought. The sh 12 million can be used to mitigate the drought that is beginning to bite the county. If the sh 12 million is divided among the 6000 starving families, each family will get sh over sh 2000.

The fact that millions were used for a seven-day retreat could anger the people of Wajir who mostly earn less than a dollar a day.

What do you think of the seven day Mombasa retreat that’s to cost over 12 millions?
