WAJIR—Several patients in Wajir town were treated to a free medical camp orgernised by the county women representative, Fatuma Gedi despite objection by the county government who largely boycotted the event saying that they were not informed in prior.

The event was officially launched by the Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

According to correspondence  seen by Kulan Post, the county women representative had written to the county department of health, but their response was too late to come by.

Hundreds of people turned up to participate in the free medical check-up and treatment by specialist and nurses

Speaking at Township Primary School ground, the women representative of Kirinyaga, Ms Ngirici who also serves as the chairperson of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (Kewopa) termed the event as success, adding that she would urge other women elected leaders to follow suit.

”I want to thank Ms Fatuma Gedi for bringing this project to Wajir because this is the first time such an event is taking pace in Wajir where free medical check up is offered,” she said.

She was echoed by the Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa who hailed the free medical camp, saying it goes along way in promoting the government’s effort to provide affordable healthcare.

”I want to take his message to the President that Fatuma is promoting affordable heathcare at the local level,” he said.

The two-day project served 1,757 people and hundred others booked for the upcoming similar events set for wards across the county.

”This is not the last time who are orgernising for such event. We will find you at your places and deep into the wards,” Fatuma Gedi who hosted the event said.

According to the lead specialist at the event, Dr Jonathan, over 13 people were diagnosed with cervical and breast cancer.

”Unfortunately they were not aware that what they assumed a wound was actually cancer,” he said.

At the end of the event, the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Special Planning flagged off lorries of food rations to the sub-county.
