WAJIR—Over one hundred police officers have been deployed at the boarder of Tarbaj and Wajir East constituencies in a bid to increase security.

Several people died and many others sustained injuries after inter clan clashes erupted in the area.

On Friday, the dreaded Al Shabaab militia attacked a primary school killing three teachers and injuring two others at Qarsa village.

Loyford Kibaara, the Wajir County Commissioner, said the officers will assist in bringing sanity in the area and will patrol schools along the border with Somalia that have been a soft target for Al Shabaab gunmen.

“We have taken over 100 well armed national police reservists to the border areas in Wajir East and Tarbaj sub-Counties,” he said

However, some residents poked holes on this move saying it’s the Kenya Defense Forces’ responsibility to guard the border and not the police.

This development comes as non-local teachers continue vacating schools within the border areas, leaving students staring at blank futures.

“We don’t know who will teach our children now. The government has failed to give us maximum security,” Mohamed who hails from Tarbaj told Kulan Post.

Last week, political leaders from Wajir were accused of calling for press conferences in Nairobi instead of going to the ground and calming the worsening security situation.
