President William Ruto has called on Kenyans and their leaders to prioritize peace and unity.

Dr. Ruto cautioned against tribal divisions and political hostility that risk derailing national progress.

Speaking on Wednesday during the funeral of Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior, father to Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, the President emphasized that both leaders and citizens have a shared duty to protect the country’s stability.

“Safeguarding peace is the responsibility of each one of us. We must avoid actions that threaten our unity,” Ruto said.

He further urged those organizing protests to remain peaceful and law-abiding, warning against destruction of property and loss of life during demonstrations.

The Head of State also appealed to political leaders to put aside partisan differences and work together to spur development, stating, “We may not always agree, but unity is key for our nation’s prosperity.”

Addressing regional issues, the President announced plans to construct an electric fence around Tsavo East National Park to tackle ongoing elephant invasions that have disrupted communities in Kilifi.

He also committed to resolving land challenges, revealing that 40,000 title deeds are ready for issuance in the county.

In a rare show of political warmth, Ruto praised opposition leader Raila Odinga, who attended the event, for supporting efforts to unify the country.

“Elections are behind us. It’s time to work together for Kenya’s future,” he remarked.

Odinga, in turn, decried divisive politics, urging leaders to focus on addressing the country’s pressing problems.

He reaffirmed the right to peaceful protest while warning against incitement and property destruction.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi lauded President Ruto’s development agenda in the Coast region, urging him to stay the course despite criticism.

“You are being opposed because of your strength as a leader,” Kingi said, pledging continued support from Coast leaders ahead of 2027.

The ceremony drew attendance from several high-profile leaders, including Cabinet Secretaries, Governors, and Members of Parliament from across the country.
